Xerox Workcentre 6025V / BI in the Test

The multifunction device Xerox Workcentre 6025V / BI focuses on WLAN and weakens thereby. Read in the test why.

The Xerox Workcentre 6025V / BI is based on LED technology. Compared to lasers, the multi-functional device therefore comes in quite compact dimensions. However, the Xerox WorkCentre 6025V / BI needs to be placed side by side as the toner cartridges are replaced laterally and not from the front. The device can print, scan and copy. However, a fax unit does not provide it. This also removes an automatic document feeder.

Equipment – wireless connections with hurdles

The Xerox Workcentre 6025V / BI is based on WLAN and WiFi Direct connection. To connect to the network, it has a WPS button on the control panel. In the test the hooking on pushbutton works smoothly. The contact with WiFi Direct is solved on the other hand. The direct connection must first be activated via the admin menu on the multifunction device. In addition, it is backed up with a password, which you can only find out via the submenu for the direct connection. In the test, the direct connection does not work.Printing from the Xerox Print Portal app fails in the test because the app does not recognize the multifunction device. Possibly the model is still too new and so not yet deposited. Only with Apple AirPrint we have no problems in the test. The Xerox Workcentre 6025V / BI dominates the mobile printing standard right away. In addition to wireless variants offers the combination printer and USB as a local interface to the computer and as a host port for the insertion of sticks. However, Xerox does not use a network connection by cable with the Workcentre 6025V / BI.

The paper stock is not too large: 150 sheets go into the open shaft, another 10 sheets can be fed through an additional compartment. The paper tray is designed for a maximum of 100 sheets – which is not too luxurious. There are no optional paper trays for the model. The Workcentre uses the 6025V / BI GDI (Graphic Device Interface) as the printer language. PCL 6 or Postscript does not understand it.

Handling – Font display and relatively quiet

The operation via the font display is at first very intuitive. The menu buttons are located at the side of the screen. Their symbols are described on the screen. We are trying to type instead of the keys on the screen, but this is not touchable. After a while we get used to the service. The menu offers many functions and setting options. However, the variety also complicates the way to the goal: For example, a black-and-white copy can not be selected directly. Rather, we work through the submenu, the last point of which is the color selection – something is unfortunate. At the same time, the Xerox Workcentre 6025V / BI works relatively quietly. In operation, we measure 12.7 Sone. When idling, the multifunction device switches to 0.9 Sone, which in the energy saving mode further decreases to 0.1 Sone.

Consumption of the Xerox Workcentre 6025V / BI

The combi printer uses four toner cartridges, which are supplied within a range of 500 pages. This is little for a workplace printer. Also in the after purchase lie the ranges with 1000 pages per color and 2000 pages with the black cartridges only on medium level. So we come with 3.7 cents for the black and 17.3 cents for the colored sheet also on rather salted side costs. After all, further components such as the developer unit are supposed to keep a printing life long. The power supply makes the multifunction device joyful: it switches to low 3 watts when idle. After pressing the power switch, it is completely disconnected from the power supply.

Speed – leisurely working

The Xerox Workcentre 6025V / BI does not really make steam in the test. This shows values like 1:53 minutes for 20 text pages or 1:36 minutes for 12 colored PDF pages. The scan unit also works just as leisurely: the preview takes 11 seconds. For comparison, the color scanner is created in 15 seconds. This is rather fast compared to the preview.

Quality in printing, scanning and copying

The Xerox Workcentre 6025V / BI delivers the printed texts in good quality. The letters are sharp. Even in very high magnification, we only recognize a small toner fog around the letters. The cover is also in order. The color prints come in harmonious colors from the multifunction device. The scan unit is used as a scanner, since it produces quite bright scans with light reds and blues. Even in depth of field, the device reaches only medium level. The copies are slightly offset to the original, but not reduced. In both color and grayscale, fading details such as lighter fonts or background colors fade easily on the copies.

Conclusion – a multifunction device for the occasional user

The Xerox Workcentre 6025V / BI is well-suited for those who need their multifunction device only occasionally. It is compact and economical in power consumption. Print or copy in higher runs, the unit is too expensive to keep. Also, the only average working temperature is sufficient for you. The range of wireless interfaces is lush. The handling for the mobile print from the smartphone and Tablet, however, we feel too complicated. There is still need for improvement here.
